WEINGARTEN FAMILY
Shaping the future from tradition
The Weingarten family's fief belonged to the Archdeaconry of Halle since the founding of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg in 986 and was under Meissen-Saxon rule for five centuries. It was characterized by an adjacent vine, which was called a vineyard. With the successful trade in food and wine, the family gained influence among archbishops. The coat of arms of the Weingarten family dates from this time. The coat of arms of the Lords of Weingarten contains five connected goods in red and, also in a linear arrangement, three freshly irrigated fields in blue. Since König Friedrich I. (Barbarossa, noble family of the Staufer) took part in military service, the battle helmet was highlighted in a central position in the coat of arms.
The traditional trading tradition of the Weingarten family dates back to the 11th century. From the family estate, an estate on the Saale, trade in products from brine springs was carried out in the northern German lowlands and in extensive areas east of the Saale. The flourishing of the region, through the allocation of market, coin, customs and ban privileges and the inclusion of the city of Halle in the Hanseatic League, enabled an expansion of commercial activity and an increased supply. Around 1500 the food trade expanded. The following generations followed the trading tradition and built a new headquarters in Rüdigershagen in 1910. With the occupation in 1945, trade came to a standstill. Immediately before the country was divided, the family settled in Hamburg and Lübeck. From here, the post-war generation founded new branches. In 1995, the Weingarten Verwaltungsgesellschaft was founded to focus on the future-oriented business activities, investments and project development, and in 1998 trading was expanded to include digital assets. Today, trading takes place via subsidiaries such as Meisterwerk online GmbH and Co. KG.
At this point we would like to thank our long-standing partners and customers who enable us to continue our entrepreneurial tradition.
